Biography
Pablo is graduated in Law in Madrid in 1985 and master’s degree in Business Law from the London University in 1987. Since 1987 he has practiced as a lawyer in Spain and in the U.K, advising from the most prestigious insurance and reinsurance companies to several Lloyds syndicates, underwriting agencies, insurance brokers and other national and international intermediaries. Pablo was the founder of the leading insurance law firm in Spain, for which he worked for 25 years, being its Managing Partner during the first 17 years and Chairman during the following 8 years. In January 2017 he set up his own firm, Wesolowski Abogados.
Pablo has been (until Brexit) the Secretary of the Board of Lloyds Iberia, of which he was the first General Representative when it opened its branch in Spain back in 2001; he is the Chairman of ACUNSA (insurance arm of the Navarre University Hospital). In March 2017 he was appointed as the Secretary of the General Council of Colleges of Insurance Intermediaries of Spain which is the official body representing insurance intermediaries in the whole of Spain. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Familiar de Seguros Active, a Spanish insurance company specializing in burial expenses and services.
He was the first General Representative of Hiscox Insurance Company Limited; the General Representative of Lighthouse Life and Lighthouse General Insurance Company Limited, the Secretary of Homeserve Ibérica, the Secretary of PRO (Participant Run-Off) Iberia and of other insurance entities writing business in Spain on an establishment basis. Likewise, he has been the Fiscal Representative of around 20 European insurance companies writing business in Spain on a freedom of services basis. Pablo is an arbitrator specialising on insurance related disputes.
Experience
Specialist in the handling of complex and protracted international claims, he has acted, inter alia, in international disputes concerning general liability, D&O, large international marine disputes, machinery breakdown, business interruption, cyber-risks and surety, to mention a few, and he is an expert in insurance regulatory issues at a national and international level.
He has drafted a large number of policy wordings in all classes of insurance (D&O, general liability, professional indemnity, machinery breakdown, business interruption, fine art. cyber, surety business, motor, marine, to mention a few) and letters of engagement for brokers, agency contracts, tripartite agreements with coverholders (MGAs), binding authorities, claims handling protocols, TPAs (Third Party Administration agreements), participating in the drafting of large international insurance programmes and advising on tax implications. He has developed a number of programmes for the distribution of insurance under the Connected Contract Exemption.
He has successfully presented a large number of applications to obtain authorisation from the Spanish Regulatory Authorities for insurers, brokers, agents, MGAs, etc. Pablo has advised many EU Insurers on how to do business in Spain on a Freedom of Establishment and Freedom of Services basis and handle the application for Spanish insurers and brokers to carry out business in all EU Member States on an establishment and freedom of services basis.”
