Biography
Olivia Benson focuses her practice on representing policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes and recovery matters. Drawing on her extensive litigation background, Olivia brings strategic insight, practical judgment, and meticulous attention to detail to every matter she handles. Before joining SDV Fenchurch, she represented secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings throughout the United States and advised banks, businesses, real estate developers, and individuals in state and federal courts nationwide. Her prior practice encompassed a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, foreclosure actions, receiverships, and replevin proceedings.
Olivia was recognized by the Connecticut Bar Association as the 2024-2025 Rising Star of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section and was named 2023-2024 Rookie of the Year by the Young Lawyers Section. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section.
Experience
Olivia represents policyholders in a broad range of complex insurance coverage matters, helping businesses maximize insurance recoveries and navigate disputes with insurers. Her experience includes pursuing coverage under a wide variety of insurance products, including commercial general liability, professional liability, and builder’s risk. She has also developed experience in niche coverage areas, including stop loss insurance.
In addition to coverage litigation, Olivia has experience handling matters involving insurer bad faith and unfair claims-handling practices, including claims arising under the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) and the Connecticut Unfair Insurance Practices Act (CUIPA). She works closely with policyholders to hold insurers accountable when coverage determinations, claims investigations, or settlement practices fail to comply with applicable legal and regulatory standards.
Olivia’s extensive commercial litigation experience gives her a distinct advantage in understanding the broader strategic and business considerations that often accompany insurance risk, enabling her to provide practical and effective counsel to policyholders.
