Matthew King

Matthew is an Associate in SDV Fenchurch’s Singapore office. He specialises in coverage disputes across product lines and industries, with a significant proportion of his experience focusing on international construction-related claims.

Matthew has advised on matters in a number of jurisdictions, including England and Wales, the Republic of Ireland, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Prior to joining SDV Fenchurch Singapore in 2025, he practiced in the Commercial and Regulatory Disputes team in the London office of a UK firm. Matthew trained at a leading City law firm, completing two seats in their disputes division.

Matthew advises policyholders on complex construction, engineering and commercial insurance disputes. He has experience acting on high-value claims involving construction all risks (CAR), delay in start-up (DSU), professional indemnity and medical insurance policies, often involving technically challenging coverage issues.

His recent experience includes acting for a Tier 1 Irish contractor in Irish-seated arbitration concerning a claim under a Project CAR policy relating to the construction of multiple social housing developments. He has also advised a major international private credit firm on a DSU claim arising from Covid-19-related construction delays and site closures.

Matthew has further acted for a large UK contractor in defending claims relating to alleged fire safety defects, while simultaneously advising on its professional indemnity claim against insurers arising from the same issues. His experience also includes advising a private individual on substantial claims declined under a medical insurance policy in Singapore.
