Biography

Rob Goodship is a Partner in the UK’s Construction and Property Risks practice group and has over fifteen years of experience in resolving complex and high-value claims for corporate policyholder clients.

Rob started his career at Kennedys Law, becoming an Associate, before joining SDV Fenchurch in 2019 and being promoted to Associate Partner in 2022. He went on to spend two years at the Ardmore Group, then one of the UK’s leading main contractors, as Head of Risk, Insurance & Compliance. During this time, he gained in-depth experience in construction risks as well as continuing impact of the Building Safety Act 2022 on the sector, including Building Liability Orders.

In September 2025, Rob returned to SDV Fenchurch as a Partner and now leads the firm’s UK Construction Sector Group, which focuses on resolving complex insurance issues for an industry facing increased risk and regulatory pressures.

Experience

Rob advises policyholders, contractors, developers and property owners on complex construction and property insurance disputes. He has particular expertise in construction all risks (CAR), latent defects and professional indemnity insurance, as well as the insurance implications of building safety and fire safety issues.

His experience includes advising numerous contractors on co-insurance issues arising under CAR project policies, including matters involving the implications of the Court of Appeal’s decision in RFU v Conway. He has also advised on coverage issues arising from Grenfell-related block notifications and on insurance recoveries connected to liabilities under the Building Safety Act 2022, including the availability of cover for Building Liability Orders.

Rob has represented clients in both litigation and arbitration, including acting for a successful main contractor in arbitration proceedings against its CAR insurer following pipeline damage caused by excess settlement. He has also acted for the owners of a prestigious London development in securing a significant recovery under a latent defects insurance policy.
