Maria Bitsch

Maria is a Partner at SDV Fenchurch Denmark, specialising in insurance and liability law, with particular expertise in property damage, business interruption, construction, product liability and professional liability claims.

Before joining SDV Fenchurch, Maria spent more than 20 years in senior legal and executive roles within leading Nordic insurers. During this time, she handled some of the most significant and complex insurance disputes, led legal departments and was responsible for litigation strategy, major settlement negotiations and the development of insurance products and policy wordings. This background provides her with unique insight into how insurers assess, investigate and resolve complex claims.

Maria also has extensive experience teaching and training insurance professionals in insurance law and claims handling.

Maria advises policyholders on complex insurance coverage disputes across a broad range of commercial insurance policies. She has particular expertise in property damage, business interruption, construction, product liability and professional liability claims, and regularly assists clients with high-value and technically challenging disputes.

Her experience spans all stages of the claims process, from the initial assessment of coverage issues through to litigation, settlement and final resolution. Maria advises on policy interpretation, insurer liability and strategic claims management, helping clients navigate complex disputes and maximise recoveries. She also has experience developing insurance products and policy wordings, giving her valuable insight into policy construction and market practice.
